100% crowdsourced map featuring shelters, resource points, medical aid locations and more in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. Over 200 volunteers have come together to contribute to this map, one of the first of its kind using Fulcrum Community.
For this project, I developed the initial map interface, created all training and procedural materials, and moderated an international user community as it scaled rapidly. The effort was a success, resulting in more than 1400 relief sites mapped and national media coverage. This accelerated experience was highly informative of the benefits and challenges associated with real-time citizen data, and our team continues to apply these insights to disaster and damage assessment scenarios.
